Fresh Starts and New Beginnings

I am so happy to be sewing again after nearly a year's hiatus!  I'm also very excited to share my new sewing obsession – American Girl doll clothes!  I grew my American Girl doll collection and became involved in the #agig doll collecting community on Instagram this past year, and I absolutely loved the seemingly limitless options for clothing patterns for these dolls.  Their outfits are so adorable, and I was eager to try my hand at sewing doll clothes.  I was hooked!

In this blog, I'll be sharing my projects and any tips and tricks I learn along the way.  I still love making rag dolls too, so there will be all sorts of doll-related sewing projects here.  I will be selling some of the things that I make in my Etsy shop — however, because I work full-time and can only sew in my free time, I don't expect to ever have much available at one time.  I can always do special orders for things that I don't have immediately available.

I began selling my items about 5 years ago, and because of my "need to sell" mindset, it quickly became a source of stress.  I felt like I should be able to work full-time AND have a successful side business, sewing every spare moment and making hundreds of sales a month.  Realistically, that wasn't possible, and I knew it. But I still felt like a failure.  I felt like I needed to be making good money with my hobby and turn it into a business in order to justify it.  So I always had that feeling gnawing at me whenever I sewed, which took some of the fun out of it.

But now, I'm done with that mindset.  I'm doing this for fun, and nothing else.  If I have something to sell, I'll list it.  If someone wants something I don't have available at the time, I'll be more than happy to make it for them.  But this is no longer my end goal.  My goal is simply to enjoy doing something that feeds my soul, and any money I make from it is just a bonus!

I hope you enjoy reading!
